Keeping Sane During Isolation, Mindset is Everything

    By STEP Staffing Solutions | News | 0 comment | 8 April, 2020 | 0

How are you? How is isolation really going for you? How is working from home panning out?

We are now a few weeks in and the novelty of working and living from home is starting to wear off. Things might be becoming harder and the motivation to stay on track and not let yourself slip into bad routines is decreasing. One thing that will help in assisting you through this time is keeping your mindset on track.

When everything else is unknown and unfamiliar, focus on things you can control. Your mindset is one of these things.

Your positive mind set starts from the minute you wake up. Our learning capacity is at its greatest in the first few hours that we wake. So consider this, what if… whilst you have this time to stay at home with a roof over your head, you made the conscious decision to wake an hour earlier each morning to feed your mind and place yourself in a positive mindset?

So how do you do this? What types of things can you do to set your day up right and start your morning positively?

    Gratitude

Practicing gratitude is such a powerful method to stay grounded and allowing yourself to focus on the good in your life rather than the bad. Start by writing down 3 things each day that you are really grateful for and why they are important to you.

    Meditation or deep breathing

Take 5-10 minutes in the morning. Find a quiet spot, sit and breathe deeply. Focus on nothing else, but your breath or the words being spoken to you in the meditation, this will clear your mind and allow for love and creativity to flow for a more productive day.

    Journal

If you are someone who has a million and one things whirling around in your mind and all of which make you feel anxious, upset and worried, then write it all down. Not only does this stop the thoughts from feeding that tornado in your head, but it allows you to look at things more clearly.

As well as incorporating these things into your daily routine, there are some boundaries that I recommend you give yourself:

    1. Reduce your consumption of media and unreliable sources of information
    2. Limit the amount of time you spend mindlessly scrolling social media pages and increase your time listening to educational podcasts or reading books
    3. Decrease the time spent sitting for prolonged periods and take short breaks throughout the day

As we travel through these unchartered times, it’s so important to look after our mental health and make this a priority every single day. These simple tips could help to dramatically improve your mindset and assist you in getting through these times.

Remember we are all in this together!
